Your story deserves a wider horizon.
Leave the studio behind and create photographs that feel alive. Reserve a private Catalina 30 sailboat for your engagement, family, graduation, personal-branding, birthday, or lifestyle session on Lake St. Clair.
Open water, natural movement, textured light, and a classic sailing backdrop.
Enough time to settle in, sail, create multiple looks, and enjoy the experience.
Confirm your photographer and final guest count so everyone has comfortable space.
Choose soft morning light or the warmth and drama of Lake St. Clair’s golden hour.
More Than a Backdrop
A photoshoot that already feels like an adventure.
The most memorable portraits happen when people stop posing and begin experiencing the moment.
Aboard the sailboat, every element adds character: wind catching a dress, sunlight reflecting from the water, hands on the helm, laughter in the cockpit, and the quiet pause before sunset. Your photographer gains a changing collection of natural backgrounds while you enjoy a private sailing experience with the people who matter most.
Bring a photographer whose style you love, or contact the school before booking to discuss your plans and coordination needs.

Arrive Camera-Ready
A little preparation makes every frame stronger.
A sailboat is a beautiful working environment. Plan for changing light, breeze, movement, and limited onboard space so your session remains comfortable and creative.
- Coordinate, do not matchChoose two or three complementary colors such as navy, ivory, soft blue, tan, or muted pastels.
- Wear secure deck shoesUse clean, non-marking rubber soles. Avoid flip-flops while moving around the boat.
- Bring light layersThe temperature on the lake can feel cooler than it does on shore, especially near sunset.
- Keep props intentionalBring only compact items that are easy to secure and will not blow away or obstruct safe movement.
- Protect your equipmentYour photographer should use secure straps and bring a splash-resistant bag for lenses and accessories.
- Build a short shot listPrioritize must-have combinations first, then leave time for candid and spontaneous moments.
Safety always comes first. The captain may adjust a pose, location, sail plan, or route when wind, waves, boat movement, or equipment placement requires it.

A standard private sailing experience is approximately three hours. Custom timing may be available with advance planning; call or text the school to discuss your preferred session.
The Catalina 30 can accommodate up to six guests plus the captain and crew. Please include your photographer in the planning conversation because people and photography equipment affect the comfortable working space aboard.
Golden hour before sunset is popular for its warm, flattering glow. Morning sessions can offer soft light, cooler temperatures, calmer water, and a quieter atmosphere. Weather and cloud cover create a different look every day.
The captain monitors conditions and makes the final decision about safe operation. If conditions are not suitable, the school will follow its current cancellation and rescheduling policy. Review that policy before reserving.
