Lake St. Clair Sailing School
Clear plans. Fair cancellation terms.
We understand that schedules change and Michigan weather can be unpredictable. Review the timelines below before requesting a cancellation, refund, or class retest.
Policy Overview
The timing of your notice determines your refund.
Cancellation requests must be sent to lscsailingschool@gmail.com. The date and time your message is received should be used to determine the applicable cancellation window.
Class Cancellation Timeline
Three deadlines to remember.
Count backward from the scheduled start of your sailing class. Earlier notice gives us a better opportunity to offer the seat to another student.
Full refund
Email the school at least seven days before the class begins to request a full refund.
50% refund
Email the school at least three days before the class begins to request a 50% refund.
No refund
Cancellations received within 48 hours of the scheduled class are not refundable.
The published policy identifies the windows above. If your request falls between the listed deadlines or you are unsure which rule applies, please email or call the school before making plans.
Inclement Weather
Safety decides when we sail.
If weather conditions do not allow the scheduled sail to proceed safely, you are protected by the school’s weather policy.
The school assesses conditions
The captain and school determine whether the weather allows the sail to proceed safely.
Choose another date
If the sail cannot proceed, clients may transfer their reservation to another suitable date.
Full refund when no date works
If no suitable replacement date is available, the client receives a full refund.
Sailing Class Assessments
What happens if you do not pass?
A failed assessment does not have to be the end of your progress. The next step and fee depend on whether you need to repeat the practical test, written test, or both.
Practice, then retake the practical test.
Spend more time practicing the required on-water skills, then return to complete the practical assessment.
Study, then retake the written test.
Return within one month to retake the written examination. The published policy allows one additional attempt.
Prepare to repeat both assessments.
Study and return within one month for the written retest, with one additional attempt. Practice before returning for the practical retest.
