We offer sailing classes and lessons for every level of sailor, from beginner to advanced. If you are just starting out, we offer the American Sailing Association’s Basic Keel boat Sailing course designed to teach the beginner the fundamentals of sailing.
If you have been sailing for a while on Michigan Lakes and are interested in getting more out of your sailing, take a look at our ASA 104 Class where you can learn more advanced coastal sailing techniques. ASA 101
Basic Keelboat Sailing Class

A Two-day Class from 10am – 4pm
Ages 13+
Learn the fundamentals of sailing keel boats of 30 ft. including sail theory, terminology, safety, basic cart work, rules of the road, man overboard drills, and much more. All instruction is aboard the boat. Students successfully completing this course will receive ASA certification. No previous experience is required.
A written exam is required.

Coastal Cruising

Ages 13+
Learn the fundamentals of coastal cruising and auxiliary sailing yacht during daylight hours. Subjects include rules of the road, required equipment, engines and troubleshooting, weather observations, heavy weather, basic navigation, and much more.

A written exam is required

ASA 104
Bareboat Chartering

3 Day Course – and 2 nights on sailboat
Pre-requisites: ASA 101 Basic Keelboat & ASA 103 Basic Coastal Cruising.
ASA 104 is required for many bareboat charters in the Caribbean and the Bahamas.
An advanced cruising Standard for individuals with cruising experience. Sailors must act as Skipper or Crew of a 30-50 foot boat, sailing by day in coastal waters. The standard includes knowledge of all boat systems and maintenance procedures while demonstrating the navigational theory required to safely navigate a sailing vessel.
A written exam is required
Students will plan and purchase food and beverages as part of curriculum
Students will split the cost of provisions

ASA 105
Coastal Navigation
ONLINE COURSE

Lectures and practical experiences are conducted during approximately ten hours of class time. Subjects include chart readings and interpretations, government publications, navigational instruments, use of tide and current tables, plotting of bearings, fixes, running fixes, dead reckoning, drift, set, etc. Students who successfully complete this course will receive ASA certifications. Written exam required.
